Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu celebrated the first anniversary of his second term by unveiling a remarkable infrastructure gift for Lagosians.

He launched a fleet of 15 high-capacity ferries, which were fabricated and assembled in Lagos, to enhance water transportation within the State. This initiative provides a new transportation choice for commuters in the largest mega city in sub-Saharan Africa12.

Here are the key details about this *infrastructure project:*

*Boat Capacity* : Each of the 15 boats has the impressive capacity to carry 40 passengers, doubling the passenger limit of the existing vessels.

*Local Manufacturing:* The ferries were manufactured by Caverton Marine in a factory jointly operated by the Lagos State Government and the private firm. The factory is located in the Badore area of Eti-Osa.

*Efficient Mobility:* These new ferries, known as Omi-Bus carriers, have been immediately deployed for commercial operations by the Lagos State Waterways Authority *(LASWA).* They aim to enhance rapid connectivity between communities, catalyze economic prosperity, and optimize public investment in water transportation.

*Inaugural Ride:* Governor Sanwo-Olu, accompanied by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and members of the State Executive Council, took an inaugural ride on the boats, sailing from Badore to Ikoyi. The journey took an average of 27 minutes.

*Sustainable Partnership:* The locally fabricated ferries operate on the Cowry Card payment system, reflecting the administration’s commitment to sustainable partnerships that advance intermodal transportation in Lagos.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that this milestone aligns with the administration’s vision to create a city that thrives on efficient, clean, and sustainable transportation, ultimately improving the quality of life for all Lagosians. 🚢🌊🌆
