SEXUAL ABUSE IN INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING IN NIGERIA: A CASE STUDY OF UNICAL This is really a test case for the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs to really show case or exhibit her potentials to the general public. There is no disputing the fact that the issue of sexual abuse by some Lecturers in some Institutions of Higher Learning in Nigeria is a common phenomena. There is the urgent need for all these to be fully addressed through proper and effective sanctioning mechanism inorder to deter others from embarking on such illicit affairs. The matter should be properly investigated and for the necessary disciplinary actions to be taken against the culprit inorder to deter others from embarking on such illicit affairs and also for equity, justice and fairness to prevail so that the innocent ones will not suffer in vain. As a lasting solution, the government should ensure that after investigation the culprit, if it is the Lecturer, should be sacked from office and prosecuted in the court of law. And if the culprit is the student, she should be expelled from the school and if possible prosecuted inorder to serve as a deterrent to others. The Federal Government should also as a matter of urgency endeavour to formulate policies to fully check mate all forms of illegal activities, including admission racketeering and sexual abuse in our institutions of higher learning in Nigeria. As part of the solution is for there to be a collaboration between the Ministry of Women Affairs, Ministry of Education and other relevant Agencies on the need to look for an holistic means of addressing or controlling all forms of illegalities in our institutions of higher learning in Nigeria, inorder for us to have a free, sound and better society. There is no gain saying the fact that our Honourable Ministers of Women Affairs and Education are both up to the tasks and possesses the required ability and capability needed to address this problem based on their antecedents, experience, visionary Leadership qualities and good track records. Please, let us all give them the needed supports and cooperation for them to succeed. E-signed: Comrade Lawrence Enaholo, M.Sc, B.Sc, MCIPSM & National Director of Party Campaign, APC Coalition Support Groups Under Rescue Nigeria Youths Foundation Worldwide (ACSGURNYF)
