The Yoruba Indigenes Foundation (YIF) Worldwide, an organization dedicated to promoting and preserving the socio-cultural heritage of the Yoruba people, made a significant move yesterday. Representatives of the YIF paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Tayo Ayinde, the Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor. This visit was part of YIF’s ongoing efforts to engage with key stakeholders and discuss ways to advance their mission across Yoruba land.
The YIF Worldwide team was led by its President, Dr. Olumide Aderibole, and included key members such as the YIF Chairman, Chief Abiodun Fajobi, and the Director of Culture and Orientation, Prince Hakeem Adelodun Adeniyi. The meeting took place in the Alausa area of Lagos State.
During the meeting, various topics were covered, including potential collaborations, cultural projects, and initiatives aimed at uplifting and celebrating Yoruba traditions and values. Chief among the discussions was the ‘Back to School’ project, known as ‘Osanle,’ which aims to address the issue of street urchins, commonly referred to as ‘Area Boys.’ The project is designed to provide these youths with educational opportunities and support, helping to reshape their lives and curb youth-related issues in the state.
The foundation’s commitment to fostering unity and preserving the rich cultural legacy of the Yoruba people was a central theme of the discussions. Mr. Ayinde expressed his delight at the visit and emphasized the importance of cultural preservation in fostering community pride and identity. He also expressed readiness to work with the foundation to achieve the goals of the ‘Osanle’ project and other initiatives.
In addition to discussing security and development concerns in Lagos and other South West states, the YIF team highlighted their serious concern about these issues and the need for collaborative efforts to address them. Dr. Olumide Aderibole remarked that the visit was long overdue and that the foundation is eager to set the ball rolling on these projects.
