ALL PROGRESSIVE CONGRESS WOMEN LEADER SEEKS COLLABORATION WITH WOMEN AFFAIRS MINISTRY TO FOSTER DEVELOPMENT AMONG WOMEN

The National Women Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr. Mary Idele has solicited the support of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs to enhance the capacity of Nigerian women to be economically independent and contribute towards the progressive growth of their families and the larger society.

Making this statement during a solidarity visit other members of the APC Women’s Wing to the Honorable Minister for Women Affairs Barr Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, the APC Women Leader stated that “the present status of women in our society is very worrisome because empowerment of women will go a long way to strengthen the socio-economic development of Nigeria” she added

She also commended the Minister of Women Affairs for her passionate approach and strategies towards restoring the confidence of Nigerian women through numerous people-oriented programs and pledged the unalloyed support of the APC women for the programs the Ministry designed to improve the wellbeing of Nigerian women.

The APC Women Leader further stated that she will work closely with the Minister to ensure inclusion of more women in governance and politics as this will be a step towards ensuring that the full potentials of the female Gender are being harnessed and utilized effectively in the country.

In an earlier presentation, the Minister for Women Affairs thanked the APC Women’s Wing for the visit and reiterated her strong desire to enhance the socio-economic status of Nigerian women and the girl child adding that it is a thing of concern that a larger percentage of women still remain at the bottom of social hierarchy with poor access to land to carry out large scale farming, quality health and education.

She also recalled her commitment to the Women Affairs Ministry to sustain the fight against sexual and gender-based violence especially female genital mutilation which has received the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Attorney-General of the Federal with additional support from the State Governors’ Forum being expected to provide all inclusive approach to the national push to eradicate these social vices which depreciates the morale and self-esteem of the Nigerian women in line with the Renewed Hope of Mr. President.

She also told the APC Women delegation of on-going discussion with Honorable Minister of Education to introduce Vocational training in schools to equip the students with digital skills and production of basic needs such as tooth pick, sanitary pads in addition to knitting, computer programing that could boost their confidence and generate income.
